Visitor Centers

Grand Teton National Park is open year round. The visitor centers are closed on Christmas Day. The peak visitor season is July and August. Because of the close proximity to Yellowstone, most visitors tend to visit both parks.

Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Rockefeller, Jr., Memorial Parkway offer a variety of activities from traditional mountain park hiking, walking, wildlife viewing, photography, backpacking, camping, climbing and fishing to swimming, boating, floating, canoeing and biking in the summer to skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling in the winter. Some activities such as overnight backpacking, boating, floating, canoeing, fishing and snowmobiling require fee permits, licenses or registration. Special regulations may also apply, so take the time to become informed at any visitor center or ranger station.

Junior Ranger

Grand Teton National Park offers many opportunities for young people. Ask about the Young Naturalist program that is offered daily during the summer. The park's expanded web site offers information for school reports, sale publications on a variety of topics and a short bibliography for school use. The park newspaper, the Teewinot, also features a complete listing of ranger-led programs for the summer season and lots of suggestions for activities.

The Grand Adventure, an activity guide for young people, is available at any park visitor center. Participants earn a Young Naturalist patch by completing the activities and attending ranger led programs. A $1.00 donation covers the cost of the patch.
